This past weekend I put in back-to-back rides — Saturday and Sunday — and added 62.9 miles toward my Great Cycle Challenge goal of 150 miles in September. That puts me a lot closer, but let me tell you, 150 is no small number! Each mile feels like part of a bigger journey — one pedal stroke closer to supporting kids fighting cancer.
As always, the trail had its regulars: runners, fellow cyclists, families out for a walk. But the real highlight was spotting “Kitty, Kitty” both days. Kitty is a magnificent black-and-white fluffball who likes to perch up high on a rooftop, surveying the world from her post near the golf course and cemetery corner of the trail. It feels like she’s become a little trailside mascot — and yes, I managed to snap a picture to share.
Speaking of trailside surprises, curiosity got the better of me when I noticed a tucked-away entrance to a place called The BackYard (2214 West Rd, Ocoee, FL 34761). I looked it up afterward and discovered they’re open Tuesday through Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. It looks like a fun spot to add to my “ride-to” list, though probably best saved for when the weather cools down — because mid-day rides in Florida heat are no joke!
Every ride brings new sights, stories, and reasons to keep going. I can’t wait to see what the next miles hold.
